ANNA B SAVAGE

w/ DAUDI MATSIKO A sense of rootedness is at the heart of Anna B Savage’s third record You and i are Earth, a record that is as much about healing as it is an unbowed sense of curiosity, and, more simply, “a love letter to a man and to Ireland.” Following on from her critically acclaimed records A Common Turn and in|FLUX, You and i are Earth manages to convey a sense of intimacy, while also being open-ended. Sounds of the sea and bright-eyed strings coax us on opening song Talk to Me, a study in tenderness, which brings us to a place of the elemental. It is a charged signifier that sets the tone, “I don’t think I feel nervous because of the intimacy of it,” says Savage, “the thing I feel nervous about is that it is so delicate and subtle, and the attention economy has made us desire big shiny things that will whisk us away.”

w/ FOMIES Tramhaus is the daring postpunk sensation from the restless and ever-innovative city of Rotterdam. In the span of its relatively short existence, Tramhaus has managed to make a name far beyond the borders of their hometown. Marked by their joyous and energetic experience, the band has proven to be able to convey this message both in live and recorded settings. The music of Tramhaus feels like a soundtrack to a vivacious, mysterious, and dangerous story. There is no room to lean back as the band takes you with them in a drag race full of emotions and euphoria driven by streamlined, fiery songs mixed with fragile and abstract tones. This whole spectacle is fueled by the near-symbiotic relationship between the five band members.

ROSE CITY BAND

Rose City Band’s music is sun-kissed timeless country rock whose seemingly effortless momentum carries the joy of its creation without ignoring the darkness pervading our consciousness. Led by guitarist/vocalist Ripley Johnson (Moon Duo, Wooden Shjips) the music of Rose City Band is rooted in his love of private press records of the mid to late 70’s. The band, in addition to Johnson, features pedal steel guitarist Barry Walker, keyboardist Paul Hasenberg and drummer John Jeffrey who enmesh a keen sense of rhythmic drive and melody with gentler, sumptuous atmospheres. Sol Y Sombra digs its heels into insatiable grooves, its parade of catchy songs conjuring a sunset drive through an open desert, both a celebration of a sojourn and a reach for the warmth of home.

The results can be revelatory “ - The Line of Best Fit 8/10 “While the music has incorporated a more expansive but similarly idiosyncratic palette. Fripp-esque sustain, synths and drum machines colour a beautifully constructed record that brings to mind Aztec Camera’s High Land, Hard Rain or Scritti Politti’s Songs To Remember.” - Uncut 8/10

Since the releaseof 2022’s 'Versions of Modern Performance,' “one of the most confident debuts of the year” (Vulture), much has changed for Horsegirl. In the fall of that year, the three relocated to New York City, where Penelope and Nora were to attend NYU—this was the first time the trio had written music outside of Penelope's parents' basement. The band’s new environment is reflected in the sonic fabric of the record. Through this time of unparalleled change, the band turns inward.

Snapped Ankles outsider status has always allowed them to hold a mirror up to society. Now the boundaries are not so clear. In the seven years since Come Play The Trees was released, their cult has flourished. Second album, Stunning Luxury, saw the band invited to play the BBC 6 Music Festival and a KEXP session on the back of a sold-out UK tour which culminated with two nights at Village Underground in London. As those who have witnessed the shamanic ritual of their live shows will attest, they are a truly unique, communal experience. Ehrlich. Queer. Selbstbestimmt.

FAUX REAL

w/ ENDLESS FUN It’s hard to pin down Faux Real. The Franco-American duo, comprised of brothers Elliott and Virgile Arndt, have been steadily broadening the scope of their project. Their high-octane DIY performances, involving matching cut-up boiler suits lined with fringe, barefoot dance routines, and crowd-splitting high-kicks, are taking on a more established and ever more unhinged form — think Iggy Pop meets campy Eurodance boyband. Faux Real act as a duo of alternative jesters infiltrating the pop space. Toeing the line between undeniable pop potential and an off-kilter flair lies at the core of everything they do. The contradictions between order and chaos, between the visceral and the artificial — that’s where Faux Real truly shines. That said, no one really knows what is real and what is faux, and that’s the magic of it all.

DELIVERY + CISTERN

Ja!

w/ PINK SHABAB Laetitia Sadierissues a call to the traumatized civilizations of Earth: we’re urged to finally evolve past our countless millennia of suffering and alienation. Her songs score the complexities and harmonies within this directive: organ, guitar, bass, synth, trombone, vibraphone, live and programmed drums, and a vocal assembly of men and women billed as The Choir, working intricate chord/tempo/and dynamic changes, as Laetitia’s empathic presence leads the way.

FAMOUS

w. TIPPING POINTS Over the course of two wildly varied and acclaimed EPs, 2019’s England and 2021’s The Valley, shape-shifting London outfit Famous has forged its own inimitable sound. A sound that subverts pop’s Gospels. A barrage of halcyon melodies, despondent electronics jutting against warming acoustics, and scintillating song structure, all this the singular creative vision of Jack Merrett — Famous’ singer, lyricist, core songwriter and only consistent member — that finds convulsively spectacular expression in their forthcoming debut album, Party Album.

SOFT LOFT + GARDENS

SOFT LOFT is a safe haven, an attitude, a way of life. It’s where the broken and the imperfect are embraced and celebrated. Soft Loft is non-hierarchical. Soft Loft is where reality is transmuted into dreams and dreams back into reality. Judgement is suspended here. Because vulnerability is the gateway to connection. Anything goes, as long as it’s heartfelt and it flows. GARDENS tell stories of failed adulthood with intimacy and directness, supported by raw guitars and soft synths. Their blend of indie folk and garage rock might be reminiscent of indie greats like Courtney Barnett, Wet Leg or Julia Jacklin.

DYSE / sold-out

Dÿse, that's Jarii van Gohl and Andrej Dietrich. One should not waste time on their founding story, case in point, is probably not true anyway. You can find rather questionable legends about the meeting of the two with a quick search on Wikipedia. Everything sounds more like sailor's yarn instead of reliable hard facts. They have always preferred a good story to music-historical information, says Andrej Dietrich apologetically. But it doesn't really look like he's sorry about that in particular. Why should he be?

Its opposing reflection, ‘Angel’ with “warm, folksy croon swells into a room-filling climax” (Paper Magazine).

w/ TIFLIS TRANSIT Six years have passed since their last long player «Du bist so symmetrisch» and you’ll hear they’ve come a long way. «Io tu il loro» was written over two weeks in a cabin at the very end of a remote Swiss valley. Pretty much at the same place, Klaus Johann Grobe came up with their whole «Im Sinne der Zeit» LP in 2014. What started out as making music again quickly turned into making a record. Once decided, the whole thing was finished rather quickly and recorded once again at David Langhards Dala Studio at the end of 2022.

POM POM SQUAD

POM POM SQUAD

Pom Pom Squad is the musical project of queer, multi-racial artist, Mia Berrin. Born in New York
and bounced from town to town through her childhood, the project was born from a feeling of
displacement. As a young black, Puerto Rican, woman growing up in predominantly white spaces, she found an escape through her love of music and film. Consuming everything from the candy colors and synth-pop of Heathers to the pastels and gloomy mellotron of The Virgin Suicides; John Waters’s campy, sleazy take on suburbia to David Lynch’s surreal one – and in the process, gained a particular appreciation for the heady mix of music and visuals. Starting in the New York DIY scene as a grunge act, Pom Pom Squad has since developed a unique sonic tapestry, incorporating Berrin’s love of modern pop, lofty orchestral arrangements, and confessional songwriting.

w/ FRANKIE’S STRANGE MACHINE Founded in California and based in Brooklyn, the Mystery Lights play psychedelia-infused garage rock with a deep reverence for the sounds of the '60s but with a dash of contemporary cleverness and plenty of spirit. Full of guitars simmering in fuzz and reverb, vocals that plead or taunt, melodies that are both driving and trippy, and an abundance of lysergic sound effects, the group made their recording debut with 2009's Teenage Catgirls & the Mystery Lightshow, but they reached a larger audience with 2016's The Mystery Lights on Daptone Records’ imprint Wick.

Fat Dog are one of London’s most exciting new bands, conjuring the sort of frenzied and wild live shows not seen in the capital for years. Their debut album WOOF. is a brilliant and mind-bending blend of electro-punk, rock’n’roll snarling, techno soundscapes, industrial-pop and rave euphoria, music for letting go to or, in the words of frontman Joe Love, “screaming-into-a-pillow music”.
